I recently had the amazing opportunity to travel to Beijing, China's capitol city. It was truly an experience of a lifetime. Some of the highlights of the remarkable places I saw were Tiananmen Square, which leads you right to the Forbidden City. It was absolutely amazing! It was the imperial palace of China for almost 5,000 years and is now the home of the Palace Museum. It has 980 surviving buildings - each more more beautiful than thee next.
I was also able to visit the Summer Palace which is where the emperors took their vacations. To say that this was spectacular would be putting it mildly! It is actually on UNESCO's World Heritage list and is also home to a boat made out of marble, yes, that's right - pure marble! Other amazing places I was able to visit was the Temple of Heaven, The Temple of Confucius, and last but definitely not least was the Great Wall! That was probably the absolute highlight of my trip. The shopping is unbelievable as well! There was plenty of signs that Summer Olympics that will be there this year as well, so it is a very exciting time of year for travel to Beijing!
